Chan Poker is a fairly new online poker room that could someday become the “NUTS” of online poker.  What do I mean by this…?  Well, what I mean is this poker room has super potential.  Here are some reasons:

  1. The number one reason has to be the poker room manager and affiliate manager - Brandon Berndt.  Brandon is a standup guy who understands “marketing”.  He has already made some massive major changes to the way the poker room is run and to how the affiliate program supports affiliates.
  2. Johnny Chan!  Johnny Chan is a well-known poker pro - something poker rooms need these days to make it big.  Players have the ability to play with/against “the master” Johnny Chan from time to time and even bounty him to collect cash.
  3. Great software on a solid network.  If you haven’t played at Chan Poker yet, you should really check it out.  You won’t be disappointed.
  4. New features and promos will be ramped up in the coming months.  Right now, new players can take advantage of a great bonus (100% up to $1000) plus daily cash freerolls for new depositors.

Poker In Toronto

Toronto PokerWhen in the world will Toronto open up a poker room?  I ask myself this question often.  Back when the poker boom began in the late 1990s, there were many underground and charity poker rooms in the GTA (General Toronto Area).  Then, all these poker rooms seemed to disappear as large casinos like Casino Niagara, Casino Rama and Port Perry (Blue Heron) took over the poker scene.  Now, most people flock to Brantford to play and to the new Niagara Fallsview Casino.  Others cross the border and deal with the obscene rake structure at Seneca Casino in Buffalo.  But, why no poker rooms in Toronto?

Toronto is the biggest city in Canada.  Poker is HOT here.  People would line up for blocks to get into any new poker room here in T.O..  It must have to do with the provincial governement and Dalton McGuinty still living in the dark ages.  It can only be a matter of time you would think…after all Woodbine Casino and Racetrack rakes in the dough with their new slot machine casino, while other slots casinos such as Mohawk, Flamboro and Georgian Downs are always full and exapanding hours with Woodbine recently going to 24 hours 7 days a week.

Ontario Lottery and Gaming CommissionSo, why no poker rooms in Toronto despite the demand?  It comes down to simple revenue vs. floor space in my opinion.  Our government (Ontario) is Greedy with a capital G.  They take a huge cut from these casinos (as the OLGC - Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation).  Slot machines simply take up less space and generate more revenue than a table with 10 players and a paid dealer.  Therefore the slot machines are more profitable and therefore no poker rooms in Toronto!

I think what the OLGC doesn’t realize is that poker will be here eventually - like it, or not.  They are missing out on a HUGE opportunity to capitalize on the boom that exists right now.  Poker rooms (or the presence of tables at these casinos) will generate huge interest.  Marketed properly, this interest could generate alternative revenue in the form of huge tournaments that would attract pro poker players and maybe even the formation of a Canadian Poker Series that would rival the WSOP (World Series of Poker).  Yes - there is that much interest here in Toronto!

I think that this will eventually happen, but in the meantime, we are stuck with slots and the fading horse racing environment while the OLGC (Ontario Lottery Corporation) gets their head out of their ass and accepts that poker is here to stay and the demand is just too high to avoid completely.  Just check out the popularity of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) Casino each August and you will see how much Torontonians love poker!

The name is Jeremy Enke.

Jeremy EnkeJeremy Enke is the co-owner and founder of Poker Affiliate World (PAW).  I have never met Jeremy Enke in person, but he has served as great inspiration for me getting started as a poker player and poker affiliate.  I stumbled upon his site Party Riches when I began poker affiliating and found the information useful and the forum as a great source of motivation and ideas.

Jeremy runs a laid-back forum.  I was allowed to post links to my first site Poker to the Max there in my signature.  Attempts at doing this had failed everywhere else (SPAM - they call it).  But, what I really liked about Party Riches was that no idea was a bad idea in the sense that ideas were always discussed (sometimes heatedly), but never deleted from the forum.

Jeremy Enke always had a point of view as well…it was sort of like a “Big Brother” point of view.  He had a lot of experience at the time in a field that was lacking “experts”.  He always posted something prolific - meaning inspirational, motivational and informative at the same time.  When times seemed tough, he always knew what to say to change your way of thinking.

Even though I am using the “past tense”, this is still true today as Party Riches has evolved and become Poker Affiliate World or PAW.  The forum is bigger and better than ever and Jeremy is still “the master” along with a lot of help from some other affiliates.  Poker News owns a stake in the site now and is helpful in marketing the site.  But it is where my ideas were “born” so to speak and PAW gave me the necessary motivation and inspiration to become a full-time poker affiliate.

More about Jeremy Enke…his motto is “THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX”.  This kind of thinking is really what makes the difference between a super affiliate and an average one.  Thinking outside the box is what can turn a little somewhat dumb idea into a great idea.  Jeremy’s most interesting “think outside the box” idea was threatening to dress up as a PINK BUNNY for the World Series of Poker (WSOP).  Although the idea never came through to practice, because the WSOP stepped up to the plate and banned costumes because of it, it was a classic marketing idea.  Jeremy generated all kinds of attention on Ebay, on poker sites, and poker forums - both negative and positive.  Everyone knew who the pink bunny was!

I still visit Poker Affiliate World or PAW every day.  I post there regularly as corpfan1.  PAW inspired me to create Titan Poker Club, Poker Tilters and now Big Fish Poker Club.  The site continues to inspire me every day and is like my “cup of coffee” in the morning (depending on when I wake up of course).

PAW recently started a poker affiliate program, and if you are reading this and decide to become a poker affiliate, please sign up as my sub-affiliate using this link - PAW AFFILIATE PROGRAM and feel free to hit me up for link exchanges, ideas, or advice any time.  Just PM corpfan1.  It is the least I can do to “give back” to my new profession.
